How to Get Beach Wave Hair

Follow Me!

This was definitely the trickiest post so far.  Doing my hair one-handed while taking pictures.  That’s why I put this off until the end of the week!

Anyone that knows me will tell you that I hate hate hate taking selfies.  Well, I take that back…it’s fun with friends in a fun place.  But, taking selfies in the bathroom by myself.  What am I… 12?!

Anyway, it’s the only way to get some hair tips out there.  I get lots of questions about how I curl my hair.  I’m constantly changing the way I curl it.  I’ve clamped, used a flat iron, wrapped (the hardest).

But, this is what I’m doing now.

First of all….I only wash my hair twice a week.  As I’m getting older, my skin (and scalp) is getting drier.  Not to mention it’s a whole lot easier not to wash everyday! (and our water is bad here, a whole other conversation)

I’ve trained my hair to do it.  For a while it was every other day.  Then, I stretched it out, using dry shampoo until my scalp acclimated and produced less oil. Now, honestly I don’t use a lot of dry shampoo unless I have to stretch it a day too far.  Say, if we’re on a trip and I don’t want to deal with washing my hair.

So, here are the products I use on my hair in the shower.   And yes….I shampoo my hair twice!  First, with the Lanza, then Caviar.

After, towel-drying my hair, I use the 10-in-1.  About 5-6 squirts. And by the way, I have links to these products at the end of the post!

Then, start blowing drying the hair yo.  Just use your fingers.  No brush or round brush needed.

Flip the hair like you just don’t care and keep blowing dry.  It lifts the roots.

When it’s completely dry get curling.  Cause you don’t want to stop here, I promise.

Now take a 1.5 inch curling iron and get started!

I have recently discovered the Beachwaver.  I love it.  I can curl my hair so much faster with this thing.

Okay, get your clippy and pull up the top two-thirds of your hair.

Spray this whole section with your light hold spray. Let it dry for a few seconds.

Take about 1.5 inch section of hair…

Clamp your Beachwaver facing away from the face.  Curl up to the ear. Hold 3 seconds and release.

Here’s your pretty curl. Try not to touch it!  You want it to cool completely.

Now, repeat away from the face.

Keep curling away from the face until you get to the sections around your ear.  Notice, I don’t clamp the ends.  It smooths out in the end I promise.

Once you get to the ear, the next curl should be the other direction or toward your face.

Now, alternate the direction of each curl going toward the back of your head.

Repeat on the other side, starting away from the face.

Now, spray with your strong-hold spray the entire section you just curled.

Now, take down the next third section of your hair and repeat.

Then, finally after you’ve done the top, spray your hold head one last time!  I use L’OREAL Elnett.  It’s great because it’s not sticky or crunchy.  You can still run your fingers through your hair.

Let your hair cool completely!  I’d say at least 10 minutes.  Then, take your favorite anti-frizz balm and rub about a dime’s worth through the ends.

Now you’re rocking the beach waves lady.

The best part about this style is that it’s messy and it will look even better tomorrow and the next day.

Here are the products I used.  You can order below!

Another secret weapon, is the shower filter we use.  The water here is pretty awful and having a shower filter will help your hair so much!

We use a Raindrops filter that fits easily onto any shower head.
