If you’re craving a Frappuccino and you just don’t want the calories or get in your car and sit in a long line at Starbucks, this is a great alternative. An ice cold frothy chai smoothie is just the ticket on a hot summer day.
Sometimes, I want a little treat that isn’t fruity. I know it has bananas in it. But, I put a banana in nearly every one of my smoothies. And, even if you’re not into them, you’ll like this one!
Chai is one of my favorites. When I was pregnant with my second, I would swing through and get a Chai Tea Latte every single day. It wasn’t loaded with as much caffeine as coffee, but I sure needed it being my pregnant with a very active toddler. And my 2-year old had already given up naps! Ugh!
So, I have a love for chai and…. yes, I figured out how to make it into a smoothie.
First, you make yourself a little cup of chai tea. Boiling water and a tea bag. Immediately stick your cup in the fridge to help cool it down to room temperature faster. Otherwise, your refreshing smoothie will be more room temperish if you mix a boiling hot cup of chai with everything else.
You can make it richer if you steep your tea bag in milk instead of water, but I find it to be lighter in water.
Once it’s cooled, put 4 oz of your chai tea in the blender with 1/2 cup coconut milk, frozen banana, 1/4 teaspoon vanilla, 1/8 cup raw almonds…and if you want it sweeter, add 1 tablespoon of maple syrup!
All Done! Pour in a nice glass and grab a smoothie straw.
Enjoy your frothy chai smoothie with a little biscotti on the back porch this summer!
Cheers!
