Strawberry Date Smoothie

June 13, 2017

I love dates!  Medjool dates that is….and dates with my handsome husband of course.  So, you should try a strawberry date smoothie.

If you haven’t discovered Medjool dates, you’ve got to run out and get some.  Don’t think of them as prunes.  Or, dried plums, whatever.  They are similar in nutrition, but taste so much better.

These things relieve constipation naturally. With all the soluble fiber (the best kind) they keep things moving.  So, they’re a great compliment to a smoothie that’s full of protein.  You can always add more dates to the smoothie to help with this as well.

They’re also a natural sweetener.  I’ve chopped them up and put in salads and blended in many smoothies.  And… like other high fiber foods, they lower cholesterol.  So, there you go.  It’s like eating nutrition filled candy.

If you’re having a crazy day like I am and you don’t feel like cooking some elaborate lunch or you want a nice sweet pick-me-up in the afternoon, make a strawberry date smoothie.

You basically throw in 1 cup of coconut milk, or milk alternative, 1 banana (frozen), 1/2 cup of strawberries, handful of raw almonds for protein and a couple of Medjool dates.  Blend really well in a high-powered blender.

No sugar needed for this one. And gets rid of that sweet tooth!

Cheers!
